| As we all know, moisture loving orchids and plants love to grow in sphagnum moss. The main problem with using long fiber sphagnum moss is the fact that you have a hard time repotting as the fragile roots get entangled with the moss and unless you are very, very careful, you will break or damage the roots when you try to separate the roots from the moss. The amount of time spend repotting will increase dramatically as the size of your collection grows. A pot that has a number of offshoots can easily take a large amount of time to completely untangle. When you get more than a very few plants, you can appreciate that you would really like to find a better way. Supersphag is prepared from New Zealand sphagnum moss where the moss is cleaned and chopped so that all that is left is the leaf that is dried and compressed into pellets. The pellets are compressed to exacting standards to ensure complete rehydration and to preserve the integrity of the sphagnum moss leaf. To use Supersphag, you simply soak the pellets in water and fluff it up, and use it like chopped, regular sphagnum. It is important to fluff the material up again after soaking. The Supersphag pellets are not all the same size, so it is not possible to give you an exact number of pellets in a pound, although the total dry amount would be well over a half gallon. When a pound of Supersphag is soaked with 18-20 cups of water, and fluffed, it produces just a little less than a cubic foot of clean sphagnum moss. The amount and price of this superior product is favorably comparable with the long fiber sphagnum moss. A mix of 50% Perlite opens the mix up more and cuts down on the cost per pot. Simple, easy, and the plants love it. The best part is that when it comes time to repot, you just tip the plant out, lightly use a sprayer, and the mix just washes away from the roots, leaving them clean, undamaged, and ready to repot! Supersphag can also be useful for orchid plants ex-flask, and to encourage root growth production on "back bulbs" and divisions. Other uses include mulching house plants and also rooting begonias, gloxinias, azaleas, and other acid loving plants. Supersphag can be used as a root packing medium for plants/cuttings for export. Supersphag is available in the USA from Camp One Orchids. Our price for the Supersphag pellets is $10.00 per pound. 10 pound boxes are $95.00. A 22.2 pound (10 kilograms) box is $200.00. Larger quantities are also available. The shipping cost is in addition to this price--we can ship up to 4 pounds anywhere in the United States for no more than $8.95 via USPS Priority Mail.
